TitleCopy letter sent from Alfred Bray Kempe, to Messrs Few & Company
Date14 February 1903
DescriptionPresident and Council have considered the application of D K S Mackinnon to supply Mrs Lydiard, the sister of the late Surgeon General Sir William Mackinnon, and her two daughters the sum of about £200 per annum out of the Mackinnon Fund, as she has suffered a distressing loss of fortune. The sum bequeathed was set down in a strict trust binding the Royal Society for using the fund to award scholarships or prizes. It would be illegal to divert any part to other purposes.

President and Council sympathize with Lydiard, but they are not in a position to make a grant out of the Mackinnon Fund, or any other fund.
