| Description | The words used by Balfour in the House of Commons has caused such a stir among the Fellows that the President felt it his duty to seek an explanation. President discovered that he used those words because Markham had informed Balfour the need of sending a relief ship was withheld from him when it was first known. Furthermore, Markham's words led him to belief the Royal Society shared responsibility in withholding this information.
President was able to convince Balfour the Royal Society held no share of the responsibility, and he will take steps to acquit them of blame conveyed in his statement to the House of Commons. Adds they think Markham should be made known of this. |
