TitleCopy letter from Sir Michael Foster, to The Secretary, The Treasury
Date30 November 1903
DescriptionThe period of five years for which the annual grant-in-aid of £4000 was made to the National Physical Laboratory will expire soon. The present sum is inadequate to cover expenses, and they anticipate a deficit of several hundred pounds at Easter 1905 if the grant is renewed for the latter half of the present financial year at its present rate. This deficit could be met by drawing on £2000, left from that which was accumulated out of the income of the Kew Committee, and transferred to the Laboratory.

They trust that their Lordships will ask Parliament to continue the grant and when a new scheme of the Executive Committee is reached, they will take the whole question into consideration.
