Date4 June 1901
DescriptionInforms him that in 1893 a portion of the fund raised by international subscription as a memorial to the later Dr J P Joule was transferred for the purpose of founding a Joule Studentship. The regulations are that it is £50 per annum, and is tenable for two years. The first award was made by a committee appointed by the Royal Society in 1894, the second by the Academie des Sciences of Paris in 1897, and a third by the Royal Society in 1899.

Thorpe on behalf of Foster now offers the Studentship for award by the Konigliche Akademie der Wissenschaften.
