DescriptionIn reply to the Under Secretary's letter of 4 October, R & S 2785, the Royal Society has confided to the Observatories Committee the duty of ascertaining for the information of the Government of India, the names of persons qualified and willing to take up the post of the Superintendent of the Meteorological Department, and of advising as to the future organization and work of the Department. List persons who are qualified and may be willing to undertake the duties of the office and provides a very brief biography for each; John S E Townsend, Ernest W Brown, Gilbert T Walker.

The Committee has also drawn up a report on the work and administration of the Department. By direction of the President and Council of the Society this report [not enclosed] and the list of names [p273] are enclosed for the information of the Government of India.
