TitleCopy letter from Joseph Larmor, to the Under Secretary of State, India Office
Date12 November 1902
DescriptionIn fuller explanation of the paragraph in the Report of the Observatories' Committee, forwarded on 7 November 1902, relating to the magnetic survey of India, Larmor encloses a memorandum from Sir A Rucker [not enclosed], who planned and executed the survey of India.

It was not the intention of the Observatories Committee that the Scientific Committee in England take over the working up of the survey results, only such part as could not be conveniently be executed in India. It is desirable the Officers in charge of the survey be encouraged to proceed with the discussion of the results as the work proceeds otherwise it will not be so efficiently done, and may be liable to degenerate into routine.
