| Description | In answer to Douglas' enquiry of 28 November, Harrison is afraid they can do little to help in the matter of possible researches of Sir William Hamilton, on the Island of Capri. In Hamilton's published books, which are letters addressed to the Royal Society, there is a short reference to Capri, but only of a few lines and that appears to be all. It is possible Hamilton may have sent some other accounts in some other communication to the Royal Society which are not printed, but Harrison does not think this likely. They would have to make a search through hundreds of pages of Journal Book from about 1760-1780, and he does not think this search likely to result in anything, principally as he thinks it probable most of Hamilton's communications were printed.
Regarding whether the Society has any account of Capri during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries which are not generally accessible, Harrison is unaware of any and does not know how they would search for such. Will see what can be done in the way of having a regular search made. |
