TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Clerk of Works, His Majesty's Office of Works, War Office
Date30 July 1903
DescriptionThinks it right that in the first instance His Majesty's Office of Works should know that the Society have lately had in the building three cases of septic sore throat and he is now informed that the gate porter and the wife of the porter of the Linnean Society are both unwell with illnesses which began with the same symptoms. The last two cases are probably attributable to the opening up of the drains in the immediate vicinity of the rooms where these people live.

The occurrence of these cases has caused some uneasiness and the Secretaries consider some enquiry into the matter should be undertaken. If the Clerk thinks this matter falls within the province of the Medical Officer of the Local Government Board rather than the Office of Works, Harrison is prepared to write to the Principal Medical Officer, Dr Power FRS.
