TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Sir Michael Foster, Secretary, Royal Society
Date1 August 1903
DescriptionHas roughed out the enclosed as a testimonial for Chapman as the sought of thing he thinks Chapman would like but leaves the matter with Foster, who has known him for much longer [no enclosure present]. Chapman wishes to get as many of the distinguished people who came into contact with him while he was at the Society to sign the testimonial and Harrison thought Foster would perhaps do what he could to help. Feels sure Lord Kelvin [William Thomson], Lord Lister, Sir Arthur Rucker and Lord Rayleigh would remember Chapman well enough.

Harrison fears Chapman's testimonial will not prove of much real value to him as he seems as 'bad as ever' but Chapman is undoubtedly suffering from the 'ill effects of having nothing to do' and it would be a great kindness if some light occupation could be found for him.

Asks Foster to send back the draft testimonial with approval or corrections. Is also sending a revised proof of the International Association report for return [no enclosures].
