Title | Copy letter from Joseph Larmor, to J F Jones, Secretary, British South Africa Company, 2 London |
Date | 4 September 1903 |
Description | In accordance with Jones' letter of 21 May 1903, application was made to the Russian Government for the loan of the Federin[?] two and a half meter standard for the use of the Rhodessia Geodetic Arc survey, as requested by Sir David Gill in a letter of 15 April. The apparatus has arrived accompanied by an intimation that the accessory parts are somewhat out of order. Under the impression that it was made be Messrs Troughton & Sims, it was forwarded to the Messrs for overhaul before being sent to Jones. However it turns out to actually have been made by P Gottschalk, of Stockholm and Messrs Troughton & Sims advise that it should be sent to them. As the expedition has already started, Larmor thinks it best Jones have the Messrs forward the standard to Stockholm, and from there to South Africa. Encloses an account for carriage which the Society has had to pay in advance [not enclosed], and presumes the amount will be refunded. |
