TitleCopy letter from Sir William Huggins, to Sir Clements Robert Markham, [Fellow of the Royal Society]
Date16 September 1903
DescriptionHas received Markham's letter and accompanying draft of a joint letter which he proposes they should send to Captain [Robert Falcon] Scott. The Officers agree with Huggins that it is undesirable, at present, that Huggins should commit the Society to any expression of opinion on matters of details. Huggins could not therefore sign the letter in its current form. Would be glad if Markham could accepted and sign the letter Huggins has already signed and sent to the Royal Geographical Society. This differs little from Markham's draft, except that it is expressed in general terms and does not go into details. It would be open to Markham to send independently a further letter in his own name as representing the Royal Geographical Society.
