| Description | Gathered from Foster's last letter that he would be at the Society today but since he has not appeared, Harrison sends the more urgent matters. These are the ticket and railway ticket for the Sanatorium ceremony on Tuesday; a note from Lodge as to the Salisbury obituary noting Sir John Evans has also declined; a memorandum from Bruce about Moffat; and a revised proof of Bruce's report. Would not bother Foster with the latter, but it is rather difficult for Foster to settle the question about retaining or redacting the brackets to indicate the passages which have already appeared in the Progress Report. Bruce evidently objects to them, as he has twice protested against them, but since they were Dr [Joseph] Larmor's suggestion, Harrison does not feel justified in removing them without authority. Harrison thinks them unnecessary.
Questions if Foster has done anything regarding making an official communication on the subject of Bruce's conclusions, before the publication of the report. Sees there is a paragraph in 'The Times' this morning on the subject making no mention of Bruce or Nabarro at all.
Has had to send minutes of Council to be printed off without showing Foster but the Treasurer [Alfred Bray Kempe] and Dr Larmor have seen them.
Asks if Foster authorizes proceeding with the publication of Miss Matthaei's paper under Standing Order 43. Encloses the referee's reports and the Chairman's note on them [not enclosed]. |
