TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to William Watson, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date13 November 1903
DescriptionIn reply to Watson's of 11th, the question he proposed is a rather difficult one to answer from the Society and is not rendered easier by Morley's letter, as Director of the Central Bureau, which Watson sent. Though the Society has guaranteed that the United Kingdom shall provide 45 complete subscriptions for five years [to the International Catalogue], it is very desirable that the subscribing bodies should continue their support for five years. Harrison does not think Morley is justified in assuming that the subscribers have necessarily given any guarantee to do so. Has submitted the matter to the Treasurer [Alfred Bray Kempe] who is to discuss the matter with Morley and Harrison will then write again to Watson.

Is afraid that the suggestion that societies contributing material to the catalogue should receive free copies would not be favorably received by the Committee. Most of the difficulties arise from the omission to appoint in England a definitely organized regional bureau, as in other countries.
