| Description | In response to their letter of 28 January, the Secretaries suggest that the Foreign Office contact the owners of a Steamer Line trading with Portugal and ascertain if one of their Captains would be willing to transport cases of Sleeping Sickness, to be selected by the judgement of the Portuguese doctor at Lisbon. They have also been advised that passage money and a gratuity of five pounds a head should cover the expenses. The patients could travel as ordinary passengers, perhaps in a cabin by themselves, and a steward be appointed to ensure they are kept fed and clean. The School of Tropical Medicine would look after them once in London. |
