TitleCopy letter from Archibald Geikie, to [Edwin Ray] Lankester, [Fellow of the Royal Society]
Date19 October 1904
DescriptionGeikie has seen [Alfred Bray] Kempe about the employment of the Antarctic Observers, whose collections are now in Lankester's charge. It seems the Finance Committee of the Expedition will hesitate to employ these men without special authority, even if the funds were available. Geikie suggests proposing to the Council to advance the requisite funds on the understanding that the money would be repaid from the sale of the 'Discovery'.

It is understood the observers would be employed for a month at the rate of three pounds. At the end of the month it will probably be ascertained which experts will stay on to work on the collections. There can be no doubt that the Council will agree to this, so Lankester can communicate what needs to be done to the men. Ferrar seems anxious to have something settled about himself.
