| Description | The President of the Royal Society would like Markham's attention called to a paragraph which appeared in the number of 'Nature' for the 20 October, enumerating a series of meetings of the Royal Geographical Society at which various members of staff of the National Antarctic Expedition are to give the results of their researches.
They need not be reminded that according to the official instructions under which the 'Discovery' left this country it was expressly stipulated that the members were not to be liberty, without the consent of both Presidents of the Royal Society and Royal Geographical Society, to make any communication to the press until six months after the official narrative.
As some parts of the Observations will involve long and arduous work on the part to whom it is entrusted, it would be unfair to these men if the most important or generally interesting results were in the mean time given to the public. |
