TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster, [Royal Society]
Date7 October 1889
DescriptionRix explains that Dr Lendenfeld has written to them about non-delivery [of his monograph on horny sponges] and Rix investigated the matter thoroughly on his return to town. He discovered that the likely cause of the delay in some, if not all, cases, was a strike by dock labourers at the time when the parcels were in vessels in the London docks in readiness to be shipped out. Rix has written to both Lendenfeld, and the men expecting the parcels, to explain the situation. As Lendenfeld's letter to Foster was dated 17 September, Rix believes the parcels will since have been delivered.

Two postscripts note a request for Foster's approval of Rix's proposal to send out the enclosed circular [not included], and the enclosure of a letter for Foster's reference from Dr Arthur Gamgee [not included] reporting on the state of his health.
