TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster, [Royal Society]
Date23 November 1889
DescriptionRix notes that an old Royal Society Fellow, Henry Wollaston Blake, wishes to come to dinner, but as he is very deaf he will need to be placed near the top of one of the 'downs' or he would rather not attend. Sir Walter Buller is also noted as wanting to bring Mr Christopher Heath as a second guest. He advises that Foster not worry about the numbers when rearranging the tables, but instead the positions, after which point they will renumber the whole.

Rix also asks that Foster think about potential members for the Scientific Relief Committee before Thursday, as Sir James Risdon Bennett retires. As a note of caution, he refers to the fact that Dr William Huggins was appointed in a rush and has never attended a meeting, just as Rix predicted.Mr John Whitaker Hulke has not been a member for many years, but took a great interest and regularly attended.
