TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Professor F E Baxandall
Date23 February 1905
DescriptionThe Secretaries present their compliments and beg to inform Baxandall that his paper 'On the Enhanced Lines of Iron, Titanium, and Nickel', has received careful consideration by two referees who agree in thinking that the paper is not suitable for publication in the 'Proceedings [of the Royal Society]'.

Provides an extract from the referees which explains that the paper is of a controversial nature and discusses observations recorded in a paper by H M Reese published in 1904. Reese's observations would hardly be accepted by spectroscopists except with great reservations, but Baxandall''s criticisms are lengthy and some not fair. It appears that there have been accidental omissions in a previous paper by Locker in the 'Proceedings', volume 65, and the referees query if it would be well to put these on record. Otherwise the papers seems as if it might be sent to the editors of the 'Astrophysical Journal'.

The Secretaries suggest Baxandall consider withdrawing the paper.
