TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Dr Dukinfield Henry Scott, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date2 May 1905
DescriptionIn reply to Scott's note, Council passed the resolution to divide the 'Proceedings [of the Royal Society]' into two series, and in doing so rejected the recommendation of a Committee which reported to them on the subject. In the face of this Harrison does not feel justified in modifying the general instruction which has been given to the Society's printers to send both sections of 'Proceedings [of the Royal Society]' to every Fellow. If Scott wishes to press the point Harrison will bring it before the Officers when they next meet.

Does not remember if Scott was on the Committee which considered this question, but if so, Scott will probably remember that the main grounds of the objection to the division was that it is unadvisable that Fellows working on one branch of science should lose touch with the other branch and it was the opportunity of maintaining that touch with the reading of both series of 'Proceedings' which reconciles some of the objectors to the proposal for divison.
