DescriptionWith reference to previous correspondence on the subject of the measurement of a Geodetic Arc of meridian in Africa, the Secretaries are instructed by the President to transmit the enclosed memorandum drawn up by Professor G H Darwin on the basis of the report also enclosed, supplied by Sir David Gill, who is directing the survey in South Africa [no enclosures]. These documents convey the information asked for by the Imperial German Government regarding the degree of accuracy desirable in the German portion of the Meridian Arc from the Cape of Good Hope to Cairo, now being measured. Preparations are being made by the Survey Department of the Egyptian Government for the execution of the northern portion of this undertaking.
