| Description | Regarding the Eclipse Expeditions, although the bulk of the instruments have been dispatched there are outstanding items which the observers will have to take with them. Professor Callendar confirms that the observers must take with them delicate photographic equipment which must not be exposed to light. The Society has to apply that the Foreign Office request free entry, without being opened, for articles of eclipse equipment accompanying the following gentlemen belonging to Callendar's party into France: A Fowler, E H Rayner, and H L Callendar, and into Spain: A Fowler, T Banfield, E H Rayner, H L Callendar. Some of the names are different from those previously sent as a vacancy has occurred through illness.
The Society has taken note of the intimation in Villiers' letter of 21 July and application has been made to the Spanish Embassy for letters of recommendation for the two Eclipse parties. If there is to be a letter for each individual it may possibly be drawn up so as to be available at both the French and Spanish frontiers. Evershed and Folwer leave on 29 July and it is therefore urgent that the frontier passes for special articles be available very soon. |
