TitleCopy letter from Robert Frederick William Harrison, to Edward Rigg, Superintendent of the Operative Department, Royal Mint
Date8 November 1905
DescriptionThanks Rigg for his letter of the previous day and the accompanying trial die and model of the Copley Medal. Has consulted Sir A Geikie and he concurs that the simplest way out of the difficulty of dealing with Professor Mendeleef's name on the medal is to leave out 'Foreign Member R.S.'. After considerable discussion they have come to the conclusion that the best way of spelling Mendeleef's name is 'DIMITRI I. MENDELEEF. There are almost as many spellings current of this name as there are letters in it.
