| Description | Harrison is sending on Larmor's letter to Edward Divers, as it stands, due to letters received from Forbes Carpenter. He understands that Larmor and Richard Tetley Glazebrook's impression, that Carpenter had only resigned from the Executive Committee, was because of his first letter, but notes that in his second letter, written after the Royal Society Council meeting, he makes clear that his retirement is from both General and Executive Boards.
At the next Council meeting they will need to appoint a successor to Carpenter on the General Board and consider whether to maintain their nomination of Beilby to the Executive Committee. The Society of Chemical Industry are felt to have exceeded their authority in making a direct nomination of someone to fill the vacancy left by Carpenter. Harrison has forwarded the relevant sections of the scheme which governs the case to Divers. |
