TitleCopy letter from Archibald Geikie, to Professor Henry Alexander Miers, Magdalen College, Oxford
Date5 February 1906
DescriptionGeikie notes that Miers is likely to be aware of the consultation which has occurred about the position of the seismological organisation operated by Milne, and he notes that their application to the Treasury was refused and they have been referred to the Government Grant. He suggests that the best way to support Milne's work would be for Boards B and D to initiate a grant for the British Association Committee under which Milne operates.

Arthur Schuster, Chairman of Board B, supports the suggestion and has drafted a letter to be circulated to members of the Board, with six copies left should the Chairman of Board D wish to send an identical letter. Geikie hopes that Miers will favour the proposal. The most critical need is for a trained assistant to relieve Milne, who currently is bearing complete responsibility for the work, and the British Committee do not have the funds to provide such help, only being able to fund printing, postage and other expenses of communication with the Colonies.

If he wishes to make use of Schuster's letter he should write to him directly for copies, or they would be willing to re-type it with any alterations specified, and they will then send it to Miers for his signature.
