TitleCopy letter from Archibald Geikie, to the Director General of the Medical Department of the Navy
Date6 March 1906
DescriptionGeikie explains the work of the Mediterranean Fever Commission, under the auspices of the Royal Society, comprising of a thorough epidemiological study of the disease. In an effort to further the progress already achieved, the need to subject naval and military establishments to study has been identified, with full investigation of possible cases and effective evacuation and disinfection of barracks, as well as the complete isolation of Mediterranean Fever patients.

He asks that a naval medical officer be selected to undertake these duties, to begin as close to 1 April as possible for the beginning of fever season. Two officers have been requested from his Army counterpart. The officer chosen would be a member of the Commission, to report directly to the Society's Committee. Geikie states that the investigation has been instigated by the Admiralty, War Office and Colonial Office, who jointly bear the costs, and undertaken by the Society's Committee.
