| Description | Geikie notes that Dr Shaw's voluntary retirement is what they expected, and he presumes the man supplied by the navy will, in effect, replace him.
He retains Eyre's note as evidence of the need for arrangements for the payments to him at stated intervals during his time in Malta. Both he and the Treasurer believe that Eyre may depart prior to this being finalised, with the Royal Society to advance him the necessary funds to begin work, which he can later repay from the money made available to him from the Colonial Office. Geikie sees no reason for him to depart later that the 23 March as he suggests. If Eyre informs him of the amount he requires and when, Geikie will ensure a cheque is sent to him if the Colonial Office arrangements have not been completed. He suggested to the Treasurer that £50 should be sufficient, but speculates that Eyre may not ask for so much.
