Description | Harrison writes to Read in the belief that he is dealing with the Malta Fever Commission, but asks that it be forwarded to the right person if this is not the case. Dr Eyre, the last man sent to Malta, may have caused confusion by his eagerness to receive his allowance, having informed Colonel David Bruce on the 14 May that, having been informed by his bankers on 8 May of the absence of funds which were to be paid into his account since 1 May, he is asking the Lieutenant Governor to pay his allowance from local funds, and suggests obtaining his personal pay from there as well.
Mr Dale, in a letter of 12 May, states that the Crown Agents were instructed to pay his salary and subsistence into his account from the 1 April, and he fears confusion will be caused in the accounts if those in Malta make any payments to him after that date, and asks if Read can prevent any duplication of payment. |
