DescriptionIn answer to Swainson's letter of the previous day, no obituary of Mr William Swainson has been printed in the 'Proceedings of the Royal Society'. The practice of publishing notices of deceased Fellows in the 'Proceedings' only commenced in 1860. The Royal Society catalogue referred to in the 'Dictionary of National Biography' is the 'Catalogue of Scientific papers, 1800-1863' volume V, published by the Royal Society in 1871.
