TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to W A Cooper, [Physical Society]
Date26 June 1906
DescriptionIs not in a position to answer Cooper's questions as regards separate copies of the publications of the Royal Society, as the Council decided to await a further communication from the Physical Society before going into the general question. Thinks Council would gladly extend the circulation among persons competent to use the publications, so far as it does not involve net loss by reduction of the existing sales to the public. If Harrison remembers correctly at the Council an offer extending to half the total membership was mentioned by some one as a possible bases. If Harrison were on Cooper's Council he would urge an arrangement covering their whole membership less those who are Fellows of the Royal Society. If the Physical Society undertook something of this kind Harrison thinks it is not impossible that the Physical Section of the 'Proceedings [of the Royal Society]' could be supplied at half the subscription price.

The 'Proceedings' is intended to remain a journal so that selection from it of special papers it not contemplated. The papers in the '[Philosophical] Transactions [of the Royal Society]' are now published separately at a cheap rate. Imagines it would not be impossible for the Physical Society to ask for a specified number of copies of any memoir at a special rate.

Notes this discussion is his own personal feeling and entirely unofficial. Believes anything that would tend to draw the Societies into closer relations would be most desirable.
