TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Major Percy Alexander MacMahon, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date15 January 1907
DescriptionIn reponse to MacMahon's wish to see 'The Royal Society scale of 1742, on which are marked the yard and the half toise', the only information Harrison can trace is Graham's Brass Standard Yard, and Diaginal Scale by Sisson made in 1742. This standard yard, along with other instruments, was transferred to the Board of Education in November 1900, and Harrison believes it is desposited in the Victoria and Albert Museum. Also cannot find any reference to instruments made by Captain Kater in 1831.
