| Description | The Royal Irish Academy has written to ask if it can be a part of the International Association of Academies. Germany is represented not only by Berlin, but also Gottingen and Leipzig, and the question has been raised whether our three kingdoms should be entitled to send delegates. Would like to know if the Royal Society of Edinburgh wishes to be represented separately. The Royal Society, being devoted to physical and biological science, is only entitled to one vote, this was the reason for the founding of the British Academy, for literary sciences. As the Royal Society of Edinburgh is dedicated to both of these causes, it could be given two votes. Lord Kelvin approved of Geikie writing to Chrystal on the matter. |
