DescriptionGeikie explains that Sir Lord Cromer's letter of 1 April, asking that the Royal Society select a man to serve on the International Committee to test the water supply of Cairo, was presented to the Society's Council at their last meeting. The three men mentioned in the letter are of high eminence, but if the Egyptian Government considers, as the Council do, that the bacteriological aspect the most important, they suggest Mr [Alexander Cruikshank] Houston as the English representative of the Committee.
