| Description | Harrison, in the time allowed by the Easter holidays, completed a rough analysis of the Fellowship of the Royal Society, and lists the numbers of Fellows belonging to eleven branches of science, with 49 Fellows attributed as 'General'. He notes that metallurgists have been listed as a separate class, rather than included among the Chemists, due to Gilchrist's particular interest in them, but that of those listed, Charles Thomas Heycock, Francis Henry Neville and Henry Clifton Sorby have been included due to their work on the structure of metals, but several chemists may also be entitled to be included.
He notes that the physical side of science has greater representation than biological science in the Royal Society's Fellows. |
