Description | Harrison responds to the enquiry from Madam Meyer, forwarded by Darwin, stating that they cannot trace the Römer observations to which she refers. Neither the printed nor manuscript catalogue contains any mention of them, while the reference in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society is vague, and the papers referred to appear not to have been by Römer. He returns her letter as he cannot make any helpful suggestions.
Despite being contrary to notes he made at the time, he has put Lord Avebury and Darwin down as seconders of Mr Godman for the Royal Medal.
He encloses the obituary notice of Mr Warington by Spencer Pickering, with its covering letter, and explains that Dr Joseph Larmor wants Darwin or Blackman's opinion on whether its contents could be objected to by supporters of the late Sir J Gilbert. He asks that it be returned with Darwin's comments. |
