TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Dr Charles William Andrews, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date[25 October 1907]
DescriptionHarrison believes there has been a misunderstanding about West Newman's letter, and he clarifies that the Royal Society pays the cost of preparing blocks or lithographic plates in illustration of any paper passed for publication by the Committee of Papers; and, when necessary, the Society includes the cost of drawing on the stone in preparing lithographic plates as a cost of publication, but he notes that this must form part of the engravers' estimate and this estimate must be accepted before work is begun.

Other than the above mentioned, authors are expected to send in completed drawings to illustrate their papers, and as the notice printed in Proceedings of the Royal Society states, it is asked that these are sent in a state suitable for direct photographic reproduction. If he can justify an exception in this case, Harrison will present it to the Committee of Papers, otherwise he does not feel justified in submitting a bill for the first drawing of an author's illustrations.
