| Description | In response to Wolcott-Stoddard's letter of 29 November, Harrison explains that because the Royal gold medals are actually awarded by the King and are struck at the Mint by his order, and then sent to the Royal Society on their recommendation to be awarded, there would be difficulty obtaining the dies to make a copy of the Royal medal of the late Dr Kerr, regardless of how strong the claim of relationship may be. The actual cost of the gold used for the medal is around £40.
Harrison expresses sympathy with her in the loss sustained by the death of Dr Kerr, who was held in high esteem by many Fellows of the Royal Society. |
