| Description | Geikie sends thanks for Seward's letter and enclosure, and agrees with his suggestion. He notes that Fellows of the Royal Society can be too free in communicating papers which they have not fully looked into, and refers to a friend of Seward's in Cambridge who is a 'miserable sinner' in this respect.
He prefers Seward's suggested form to Darwin's, and states that they could not dispense with the Standing Order regarding referees, and the communicator would indicate his appreciation of the paper if he agrees that it should be accepted and sent to referees in the usual way. Room could be found for Seward's resolution at the January Council, and he suggests it may be worth bringing forward the question of the author being required to submit illustrations in a fit state to be reproduced. On the latter point, Geikie had intended to raise it at the Committee of Papers on Thursday, but deferred it after being informed that Dr Andrews, about whose paper the question arose, had intended to send a letter to the Council on the matter. |
