TitleCopy letter from Joseph Larmor, to Dr Bottomley
Date19 December 1907
DescriptionLarmor explains that the Royal Society have assumed responsibility for issuing invitations to public bodies, taking into account the advice of the authorities at [Westminster] Abbey and following precedent. He proposes that the cortage go from the railway station directly to St Faith's chapel.

The number of stalls and choir seats, and seats in the transepts and nave are detailed, with mention made of the difficulty of seating all the relations in the choir seats and so the need for assistance in selection. Larmor requests a list of mourners so that he may work out who is to assemble in the Chapel House, divided into foreign and British delegates, ensuring the number in the procession is kept down, even though there is room. He notes that the list of pall bearers is getting too long.

Timings are discussed, with the relations to assemble at Chapter House by 11.40, with the Cloister procession taking ten minutes. A guard of the Electrical Engineer Volunteers will line the Cloisters.

They have written to inform the King, Prince of Wales and Duke of Connaught, and Larmor lists the names of Fellows of the Society who may attend. Mills & Sons Limited, Paddington are noted to have the necessary experience, and they ought to send a representative to Largs tonight to assist and advise. Larmor delayed this until he had received authority from Bottomley. He asks that communication be carried out by telegram where possible as the matter cannot be postponed.

Blocks of tickets will be sent to societies and institutions, as far as possible to meet demand.
