TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to James Swinburne, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date7 January 1908
DescriptionAt the direction of the President, Harrison asks if Swinburne would be able to act with Professor Ayrton, Professor Fleming and William Duddell to advise on the electric lighting in the Royal Society's rooms. The tea room is inadequately lit for its current purpose, which is primarily as a committee room, and the portable lamps on long flexible wires which light the basement are no longer considered convenient or safe. Table lamps in the Library bays are also considered desirable.

If Swinburne is able to meet at the Society to discuss the matter, Harrison asks that he give a choice of dates on which he could attend. The work proposed would not take long, but he is anxious to begin before the session starts. He encloses specifications [not included] which seem practical and convenient. The only point he doubts is whether the three light fittings in the tea room are worth the cost of 45 shillings each.

[Also sent to Professor William Edward Ayrton, Professor John Ambrose Fleming and William Duddell]
