Adverting to your two letters, just received concerning your private copies of your Proceedings [of the Royal Society] paper of the Interaction of Mercury & Alloys, I beg to inform you that the hundred copies sent, and received by you, are supplied gratuitously by the Society, and that there is therefore no charge for you to meet in connection with them.'
