TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison to The Secretary, H M Treasury
Date12 May 1908
DescriptionWith reference to the letter from H M Treasury dated 15 April (6789/08) on the subject of applications for the grant of two sets of the Challenger Reports to be placed in the South African Museum, Cape Town, and the Albany Museum, Grahamstown. It appears that the South African Museum received in 1898 a complete set of the Challenger Reports, with the exception of Part I, Volume I (Zoology), and received in addition, duplicate copies of ten separate volumes of the reports. The Royal Society therefore cannot advise H M Treasury to grant a complete set of reports. With regard to the Albany Museum, it would seem that full scientific use is hardly likely to be made there of a complete set of the reports. The Royal Society would suggest that as many volumes as possible on Natural History subjects as can be spared from the broken sets of the Reports be presented to this Museum.
