I beg to acknowledge your letter of May 27. It is an invariable practice of the Society not to give its opinion, as a body, upon any matter submitted to it, but if Dr Russell, or any other Fellow of the Royal Society communicates a paper by you with a view to its publication, it will received the same consideration that all papers communicated to the Society receive.'
