TitleCopy letter from Archibald Geikie, to The Chairman, Scholarships Committee, Commissioners of 1851 Exhibition
Date20 June 1908
DescriptionAs requested by Council, Geikie explains the circumstances of the election to the annual Mackinnon Studentship of £150 to the Physical group of sciences. The Council were very impressed by the remarkable excellence, both in performance and promise, of several of the candidates, and it is because they feel it is in the interest of British science that these young investigators continue their work, that they wish this letter to be written.

One candidate has held, with the results of first rate importance, an 1851 studentship for three years, which are now just ending, at Cambridge. Another is from the University of Birmingham and is apparently eligible for such a scholarship. However Council have selected another candidate on the ground that he had been working without emoulment for the past half year.
