TitleCopy letter from Archibald Geikie, to Dr Charles Chree, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date15 July 1908
DescriptionThanks him for the proof of the Christchurch tables. Regarding the magnetic curves which he has had copies made, the simplest and best way would be for Chree to affix such written slips as he thinks desirable. It is true that reproduction of the curves is not urgent, because cost has be determined. Of the three alternatives he suggests, the best would be to send samples to the Royal Society. All Geikie has to is ascertain the number of curves to be reproduced and their nature. Chree is at liberty to decide how many curves should be given and in what form.

It seems quite clear that he should complete all the tables he refers to. He is the judge, all Geikie wants to know is the number to which these tables will extend. Will they amount to 16 or more pages? The Royal Society are anxious that the magnetic work of the expedition should be carried out as fully as Chree and the director think. They are the advisers. As the funds are limited, Geikie only wants to ascertain the costs.
