TitleCopy letter from Joseph Larmor, to Admiral Field
Date20 October 1908
DescriptionChetwynd's paper has been shown to the referee in its present form. He sends a further list of corrections, but also calls attention to the important matter in the discrepancy between land and sea observations. He evidently thinks it may be due to temperature differences, and that at any rate the evidence is far from conclusive. If the Admiralty and the Royal Society put forward such a statement, they will hear of it with emphasis. The Carnegie people will put it to test at once. The point is fundamental for practice and so should thoroughly be looked in to.
