TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster
Date13 January 1891
DescriptionRix discusses the estimates he has obtained from Cambridge and Collings for the illustration of Spencer & Horsley's paper. For this sort of work Rix does not think Collings can be beat and Lockyer says Collings is by far the best man in London. Rix thinks they are probably making a mistake in getting estimates for black on white. All the curves are on smoked paper the reproduction of which is obtained by photographing on the block and cutting it white on black. Collings says this would cost £16-3-6 and take ten days. Rix asks for leave to accept this latter estimate if the author approves. Regarding the Meteorological Council, the lease came this morning and Rix sent it on at once with all the correspondence in accordance with Foster's instructions. Dr Haycroft prefers the Cambridge Company to the Autotype Company so Rix has asked them for an estimate.
