TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster
Date7 February 1891
DescriptionRix has sent Dr Aitchison's letter forward as directed. Enclosed he sends Dr Armstrong's letter which he wrote to Foster about yesterday. After Rix had written he spoke with Sir Gabriel Stokes who thought it would be exceedingly dangerous in the present state of libel law for the Royal Society to give specific cases [where the title of Fellow of the Royal Society has been improperly used]. Rix could draw up a general statement if of use and notes that the greater number of cases are in America and the Colonies. Regarding Johnson's abstract, if it is not to be published at the Royal Society, Rix supposes it ought not go in 'Nature' et cetera, or in any case not as 'read before the Royal Society'. Rix asks for advice on this point as the author has already sent to 'Nature' and has asked the President for permission to send to 'Lancet' and the 'British Medical [Journal]'.
