TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster
Date13 October 1890
DescriptionRix told the printers to let Foster have a proof of his note tonight if possible and sent by passenger train at about 11am the books Foster asked for. Rix asks for advice in contacting Sir Travers Twiss whose name is about to drop [as a Fellow].

Rix saw Mr Burch the other day who read a paper at the Royal Society and has a grant from the Government Grant and has been appointed librarian to the Civil Engineers. Rix spoke to Burch about the catalogue of scientific papers, Burch having catalogued nearly the whole of the subject catalogue of the Bodelian. Burch strongly maintains that a subject index can be properly made and Rix thinks Burch has the best grip of the necessary detail of anybody he has spoken with and Rix strongly recommends Foster speak with Burch on the subject.
