TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Horace K Pope, 7 Gloucester Square, Southampton
Date24 November 1890
DescriptionRegarding Pope's letter of 19 November, the Royal Society has made enquiry regarding the value of the volume which Pope sent for their inspection. Brunet shows that the seven volumes, edition 1722, sell for 24 frances and Lowndes shows that the four volumes, edition 1798, sell for 30 shillings. Pope's price for the copy was out of the question especially as the Society already has all the matter contained within it. They are willing to give Pope two guineas for the copy. In answer to Pope's subsequent note about Newton's 'Optice Sive De Reflexionibus, Refractionibus', the Society does not have the second edition but would be glad to.
